About the program

Turpin High School is home to an award-winning orchestral program featuring both a Philharmonic Orchestra and an Honors Symphony Orchestra that includes strings, wind and percussion students. Orchestra students perform at seasonal concerts, vocal concerts, special ceremonies, area events and graduations.
Students from both groups have the opportunity to compete in:
Turpin students also try out and earn selection to perform in the Northern Kentucky University Sinfonia, Cincinnati Junior Strings, Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra Concert Orchestra and Philharmonic.
As a group, they have ventured across the country to perform and compete in spring music festivals, including events in Orlando, Gatlinburg and Myrtle Beach ─ winning “Best in Class” at Fiesta-val and Performing Arts Consultants’ festivals in Gatlinburg and Myrtle Beach.
THS Orchestra has collaborated with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra to host a community concert along with the Anderson High School Orchestra. For many years, the orchestra has hosted the Performing Arts Consultants' spring festival which features school orchestras and choirs from around the Midwest.
Students from both groups have the opportunity to compete in:
- OMEA Solo and Ensemble competitions
- OMEA large group competitions
- Place for chairs in the Southwest Region Orchestra, with high placement giving students an opportunity to perform in the OMEA All-State Orchestra
- Area Concerto Competitions
- Cincinnati Arts Association’s prestigious “Overture Awards” competition
